Title: Shadow Alchemy: When Your Body Grieves a Timeline You No Longer Belong To
Category: Personal Journey / Shadow Alchemy
I am writing this from Bali, a land that does not let you lie to yourself. It is the end of the year, we are in ceremony season, and the air here is thick with the energy of endings and beginnings.
Yesterday, my body knew something before my mind did.
I woke up from a vivid, electric dream with a physical cramp in my body and tears already falling. It wasn’t a gentle waking; it was a jolt. My nervous system was vibrating. I knew on. Waking that a significant chapter of my past—a person who held a massive energetic space in my life for many years—had physically moved countries. A friend later confirmed my dream was accurate.
Even though the emotional relationship ended earlier this year, my body registered the shift instantly. It felt like a cord, one I didn’t realise was still humming in the background, had finally been severed.
In Shadow Alchemy, we talk often about the mind and the soul, but we sometimes forget that the body is the ultimate truth-teller. It doesn’t deal in “what ifs” or social niceties. It deals in energy. And what my body was doing wasn’t a breakdown. It was a release.
I want to take you through this experience—layer by layer—because I know I am not the only one standing on a threshold right now. If you are feeling heavy, emotional, or physically shaken without a logical reason, it may be that your soul is preparing you for a massive expansion.
This is what it looks like when we stop grieving the person and start grieving the timeline we no longer belong to.
The Body as the First Responder
We often think we find out about life changes through texts, emails, or conversations. But for those of us who are energetically attuned, the news often arrives through the nervous system first.
My dream wasn’t a metaphor. It was a live transmission. My psyche received a notification: “The field has changed. He is no longer where he was.”
For someone else, it might have shown up as a fleeting thought. For me—someone who feels, senses, and channels—it arrived somatically. The dream was not about the person involved. It was about the energetic movement of a major player leaving the playing field.
My body responded instantly because it had been attuned to that specific frequency: the absence, the avoidance, the patterns, the vigilance, and the weight of “unfinishedness.” When he moved countries, that pattern tore away from my field. The dream was the moment of detachment. The cramp was the somatic discharge. The emotion was the stored grief leaving.
This is what happens when a long-standing energetic bond detaches suddenly. Even if we have done the work, the body stores the memory of long-term partnership—the stress we carried, the responsibility we held, the wounds we absorbed, the love once shared.
When the cord was cut by circumstance, my nervous system registered a profound physiological shift: “I am no longer entangled with him in the same way.”
Shadow Alchemy: The Distinction Between Grief and Release
As I sat with the waves of emotion—exhaustion, sobbing, deep pressure in the chest—I had to pause and use the tools of Shadow Alchemy to discern what was actually happening.
It is easy to misinterpret these symptoms. The ego loves to whisper, “You’re crying, so you must still be attached,” or “You’re hurting, so you must be weak.”
But here is what feels true when viewed through the lens of the Soul:
1. The body isn’t grieving the person; it is grieving the release of a timeline.
When someone who has been part of your story makes a definitive move away from your life, the body recognises it before the mind catches up. I wasn’t crying because I wanted the past back. I was crying because my body finally felt safe to let it go.
Part of my system has been holding the weight of avoidance and energetic debris. When he left, a long-held cord loosened. That kind of release is visceral. It shakes the nervous system. The tears were the release of emotional memory. I was crying because I could finally put down the load I had been carrying while I was surviving, stabilising, and navigating the separation.
2. The collapse of the unconscious “What If.”
Every separation holds a quiet background frequency—even if you don’t want the relationship—of: “What happens next? His leaving the country answers all the unspoken questions. My body was grieving the finality. It was the death of the potential, not the person.
3. The grief is partly collective.
This was a huge realisation for me. There was a “mother-heart” sorrow moving through me that wasn’t just mine. I was feeling the ache of fatherlessness, of emotional immaturity, of men who step out instead of up, of generational patterns that harm children and ripple through adulthood. I’d seen that pattern all through my life, from different men in my life and in very different ways.
My sensitivity means I don’t just feel my pain—I feel the truth of the whole situation. By acknowledging that I was feeling a collective grief, I could stop making the pain “mine” to fix. I could simply witness it.
The Spiritual Timing of Release
There is no coincidence in when this happened.
I am in Bali, an island that amplifies truth, ceremony, purification, endings, and beginnings. Bali doesn’t let you lie to yourself. It doesn’t let old energy stay hidden.
I am standing on a spiritual threshold:
- End of the year.
- Ceremony season.
- A Supermoon.
- A reclamation of my identity.
- Deepening into my soul work.
When you rise, old patterns fall away. When you step into your next chapter, the past reorganises itself—sometimes dramatically.
I realised yesterday that my expansion didn’t happen in spite of his absence. It happened because of it. Since his energy left my home, my art has exploded, my channelling has deepened, and my leadership has stepped forward. Most importantly I have learned a huge amount about myself and where I have let myself down.
The universe loves clean lines. When a new chapter is ready, the old chapter gets pushed out. His exit from the country coincides with my entrance into my full power. My soul has just stepped into a bigger room, and the universe essentially swept the floor so I wouldn’t have to keep stepping over the dust.
This isn’t abandonment. This is liberation.
The Identity Shift: Who Are We Without the Weight?
This shift marks the beginning of a new internal identity. This is the part that matters most, and it is the core of the work I do in Journey Home to Soul.
When we are entangled with people who cannot meet us, we often develop a “survival identity.” We become the ones who hold it all together. We become the stabilisers, the fixers, the ones who over-function to compensate for someone else’s under-functioning.
For a long time, I carried a pattern: “I will hold what the other person cannot.”
This pattern created emotional over-responsibility. It meant minimising my needs and losing parts of myself to keep the peace. But when the physical proximity ended, the spiritual pattern dissolved too.
I am stepping into an identity that is no longer defined by that pattern or that struggle.
- I am no longer the woman who endures.
- I am no longer the woman who manages emotions that are not her own.
- I am no longer walking with a shadow in my field.
The identity rising now is sovereign. Unbound. Emotionally clear. Spiritually attuned. Deeply creative. Financially sovereign. Grounded. Whole.
This is why the grief hurts—it is the shedding of a skin. But what is growing underneath is iridescent.
The Dragonfly Archetype
This experience has brought me intimately close to the archetype of the Dragonfly.
The dragonfly is a creature of two worlds. For most of its life, it lives underwater as a nymph. It crawls in the mud and the muck of the pond bottom. It survives in the dark. This represents the years of “holding space,” of heaviness, of navigating the emotional depths and the subconscious shadows.
But there comes a moment—a precise, biological imperative—where the nymph must climb up the reed and leave the water.
To become a dragonfly, it must break its own shell. The moulting process is intense. It is a struggle. It requires a cracking open of the back, a painful push to emerge from the casing that once protected it but now confines it.
What I felt yesterday—the cramp, the tears, the shaking—was the cracking of the shell.
If the dragonfly stays in the shell, it dies. If it refuses to leave the water, it never fulfills its destiny. The pain of the release is simply the price of the wings.
Once it emerges, it must sit on the leaf and wait for its wings to dry. It is vulnerable in that moment. It is soft. But once those wings harden, it becomes a creature of the air—capable of flying in all directions, reflecting light, moving with agility and power.
I am on the leaf right now. My wings are drying. And if you are reading this, feeling the stirrings of a massive change in your own life, you might be there too.
Integrating the Shadow
So, how do we integrate a shift this big? How do we practice Shadow Alchemy when the shadow is right in our face?
1. Honour the Body’s Wisdom
Don’t try to “mindset” your way out of the tears. If you need to cry, cry. It is not weakness; it is data processing. Your nervous system is recalibrating to a new reality where it doesn’t have to be hyper-vigilant anymore.
2. Name the Grief Correctly
Be clear about what you are grieving. Are you missing the person, or are you grieving the hope you had for them? Are you grieving the relationship, or the years you spent trying to save it? Naming it takes the power out of the shadow.
3. Accept the Vacuum
When a big energy leaves, it creates a void. The ego rushes to fill it with noise, food, scrolling, or new attachments. The Soul waits. Allow the emptiness. That space is where your new life is going to be built.
4. Trust the Timing
Your soul knows when you are strong enough to handle the release. I couldn’t have processed this 6 months ago. I needed to be here, in Bali, resourced and expanded, to let this final cord go. Trust that if it is happening now, you are ready for it now.
The Path to 2026
I know, with absolute certainty, that this clearing is preparation for 2026.
This year has been a clearing year. Next year is an expansion year. My business, my art, my voice—it is all shifting. The universe cleared the space for deeper love for myself, new relational possibilities, financial sovereignty, and a more powerful sense of self.
I am shedding a version of myself that existed in relation to him. Now I am stepping into a version of myself that exists in relation to my Soul.
This is Shadow Alchemy. It is taking the heavy, leaden weight of grief and transmuting it into the gold of wisdom and freedom. It is realising that the thing that broke your heart was the thing that broke you open.
An Invitation to Your Own Metamorphosis
I share this personal story because I know I am not the only one.
We are living in a time of massive energetic recalibration. Relationships are ending, careers are shifting, old timelines are collapsing. We are being asked to step up.
If you are feeling the call to shed a skin, to release a timeline that is too small for you, and to break open your own shell, you do not have to do it alone.
This is the heart of the Dragonfly Journey.
In September 2026, I am holding space for this exact kind of transformation here in Bali. The Dragonfly Journey Retreat is a container for women who are ready to climb out of the water.
We will be gathering on this sacred land to do the deep work:
To witness our shadows without judgement.
To honour the survival strategies that got us here.
To release the energetic cords that bind us to the past.
And then—together—to crack the shell and dry our wings.
Bali amplifies everything. It accelerates the process. It holds you while you fall apart and celebrates you when you put yourself back together.
You have spent enough time in the nymph stage. You have carried the weight. You have done the survival work.
Now, it is time to fly.
