Learned Vs. Lived Expertise

By Penny Hockings.

The school of life is a fabulous teacher.

I spent 12 years getting a mainstream education. Another four in further education. Plus countless more hours randomly scattered here and there as my curiosity, or employer, directed me.

I am educated. I am intelligent. I am multi skilled and well versed in lots. I’ve played in the big boys playground and held my own.

I’m adaptable, capable, teachable and pliable. I am able.

I am an expert in, and at, many things. Many I’ve learned, been educated in and practised.

They’ve served me well – but not served me fully.

They’ve provided much – and yet they’ve lacked.

The expertise I’ve learnt is nothing in comparison to the expertise I’ve lived.

The kind of expertise that comes from experiencing and embodying every minute aspect of something in all its glory and despair.

The kind that you unconsciously gain from the simple action of living.

From living it all

  • the uplifting & downward spiralling
  • the joyous & the devastation
  • the effortless & the drudging
  • the mindless & the present
  • the boring & the exhilarating
  • the under & overwhelming
  • the natural & the unnatural
  • that which changes nothing & that which changes everything.

Living in the school of life in all its technicolour.

Lived expertise cannot be learned, but its’ golden expertise can be shared.

If you’d told me that one day I’d share my lived trauma expertise from

🖤 when my ex-husband had a jerry can of fuel in his hand asking for my lighter,

🖤 or when I was alone in the hospital for my first six days of my life,

🖤 or when I was sitting in the dark laundry cold & alone like a dog as my family watched tv in the next room,

🖤 or when I fled interstate with two young children because we kept being found,

🖤 Or when I was sexually assaulted by two male ‘friends’ while under the influence

🖤 Or when I was pinned against the wall by my throat

… I would have directed many profanities your way, and then laughed (or cried).

Yet here we are.

I’m a Trauma Guide. A Soul Guide. An Energy Alchemist and Soul Weaver.

I’m still reweaving my life fabric… and I help others reweave theirs. With ease, grace, integrity and deep honouring.

I use ALL my lived expertise and a little of my learned. You can’t teach first hand experience, no textbook has that script.

I am grateful for the school of life and the greatest gift it gave me – ME.

My soul self unburdened by the past, fully embracing all I am, guiding and supporting others to see and be the gift that is them.

Is it coincidental the meaning of Penelope is ‘Weaver’?

I think not.

If you’re ready to reweave your life there’s numerous ways to work with me, all personalised & as unique as we all are.
